Vintage Swimsuits Vogue 1955

I love these vintage swimsuits, they are sexy and made the body look very curvy. This swimsuit spread is from Vogue magazine January 1955, two of the swimsuits ads are for Tylon zipper and Cole's of California.

This is the newest-looking swim suit you are likely to see all year. It is a Sacony's superbly cut lastex suit for women who take their swimming and their figures seriously. As you see, its dramatics derive chiefly from the swag-draped strap that zoom over one shoulder. The print suit comes in black or navy with white 19.95. The solid color version red with blue sky, navy with lilac, white with navy 17.95. Both suits comes in sizes 10-18.

Swim through summer in two beautiful suits ....made twice as terrific with the Talon zipper!

Left - wing-top sheath with convertible halter straps, in elasticized boucle, pale pink, light turquoise, light blue, violet, sizes 32-38 $18.95. Right - same suit in elasticized faille, in coral, black, violet, turquoise, light blue, Chromspun and Celaperm colors, sizes 32-38 $15.95.
Sharkskin-smooth Lastex with crisply contrasting pique piping and bowknots. Dazzling  white, pink, blue or lime. Sizes 32-40 $14.95
Sleek and glossy Lastex with cut-out top hung with make believe pearls. Black, white, red, blue or cherry red. Sizes 32-40 $15.95
Left - the couturier look, curved and asymmetric. Laton taffeta in blue, orange, green black, cerise, mauve, aqua. Sizes 10-18 $22.95. Right - the long lean line in Lastex accented with Spanish braid. Orange, black, white, cerise, blue or yellow. Sizes 10-16 $17.95
Left - shimmering acetate Lastex with one-piece panty leg, crossed cord inserts at top and bottom. Navy, black or red. Sizes 10 (32) - 16 (38) $18.95. Right - beautifully built acetate Lastex sharkskin. Blue, pink, white, red, green, navy, yellow, or orchid. Sizes 10 (32) - 18 (40) $10.95

Two lovely suits from Cole's of California, not sure why they are holding the guys under water.

The second Coles swimsuit is the same as one of the ones above advertising the Talon zipper.

I like this pink one because it has little white fringe along the bottom and top.

Do you have a favorite and would you wear one today?

  2. I love vintage suits and I do own a beautiful suit that is pretty old. It's black lace and nude underneath with a matching lace jacket. I used to wear that in college with a pair of Docs and nothing else. I did look pretty hot if you ask me :) Last year I scored a pink and white polka dot one piece at old navy that totally rocked this old time cut. I love it!

  3. Couture Allure just ran a post about the above blue swimsuit with more information on the designer. I love her posts, usually with some wonderful vintage fashion.

    1. Oh me too! I like how it wraps around back and gives the suit a binding under the breast. I wonder what it looks like in back.

  5. I LOVE vintage swimsuits, all of these are gorgeous. I love how they're all so figure-flattering. After trying some on in real-life, they can be scary. They're so solid, it's scary to take them in the water!

    1. HaHa, I know what you mean about taking them in the water. Wonder if you'll ever dry off. Someone was looking for these older styles in the newer swimsuit fabrics, I think I have seen some retro ones somewhere, maybe pinterest. I have some vintage swimsuit pattern and am going to make one in the modern fabric. I am going to try and eliminate the zipper because the fabric has so much stretch. I'll post it here sometime in the far off distance.

  6. honestly, i love all of these, but i'm not sure i could get away with wearing them! i know that sounds so silly, doesn't it? i should just wear what i like, but sometimes, even though i like certain things it doesn't really fit in with the rest of my style, or the area that i'm in, or... i'm not sure how to explain?

i do love the red one with the one strap, and that last pink one with the ruffle you posted. so adorable. which one is your favorite?

    1. My favorite is the second blue one by Cole. I would really prefer the first blue one by Cole, but I think I would take the button off, I think that would look the best on me.

  9. So pretty! I love the ones that look like really short dresses. It's interesting that none of the models are wearing swim caps though... I thought those were really popular in the past.

  10. I love those ones too.I guess no swim caps for the fashion shoot, but definitely had to wear them in the pool. Pools have better filters nowadays so we don't have to wear them thank goodness.
